THE TALE OF THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
1 Full Day Tour

You will discover in an original way the chateau of Usse, which inspired Charles Perrault to write the famous fairy tale of the Sleeping Beauty.

Then, the visits of the gardens of the Chateau of Villandry, jewel of our region known as the "garden of France" and as well as a famous sweets shop in Tours will diversify the different fields of interest during this day of sheer success.

PROGRAMME
10:00 a.m.
Visit of the CHATEAU OF USSE, "the Sleeping Beauty's Chateau" located in the green Indre river valley. It is the very image of a beautiful castle, the one which inspired poets and authors of fairy tales: built with the local limestone , with a multitude of roofs, pinnacles, dormer windows, and chimneys. You will discover: the guardroom, the former chapel, the large gallery with many tapestries, and king's bedroom hung with red silk and lovely Louis XVIth style furniture. Inside the keep, be enchanted by the Tale of the Sleeping Beauty with the famous Wicked Witch and Princess... and Prince Charming. Indeed, , Charles Perrault, author of this tale, was inspired by the château when writing this famous story.

11:30 a.m.
Visit of the Chateau wine cellar with APERITIF-AND WINE TASTING. You will savour toast with rillettes and goat cheese on toast, served with wine.

12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Lunch in Usse. Then, leave for Villandry.

2:30 p.m.
Visit the famous VILLANDRY GARDENS which surround like, a jewellery box, the last great Early French Renaissance château built on the banks of the Cher river (1536). You will walk through one of the most beautiful gardens in France distributed on three levels : the water garden, surrounded by a cloister made of linden trees, the ornamental garden, displaying its "love", "music" and herb gardens, the kitchen garden, over 12,500 m2, which reproduces the shape of an authentic multicoloured checkerboard divided in nine squares where vegetables and fruit trees are symmetrically planted. Continue towards Tours.

5:00 pm
Arrival at LA LIVRE TOURNOIS-POIRAULT. In this famous Tours confectionery, the oldest in the city (1807), you will see how old-fashioned barley sugar sticks, flavoured with vanilla and elderberry blossom, are made, and you will taste some . You will also love the other home specialities: Tours style stuffed prunes and the muscadine. You will crunch a "Livre Tournois", chocolate copy of the coin used all over the Centre West region for eight centuries, and which was stamped in Tours. Finally, you will taste the " Nougat de Tours", a famous local cake.

End of the day around 6:00 p.m.
