walking tour in this fortified medieval city located on the banks of the Indre river: The
Cordeliers. gate XVth c, then, along the pedestrian streets, the St. Antoine tower, the
Picois gate, XVth c built next to the Town Hall, the graceful Renaissance buildings with
their balconies decked out with flowers; the "Chancellerie" house; the Royal
Gate.
Guided tour of the CHATEAU, ROYAL RESIDENCE partly
built during the XIVth and XVth centuries and completed when the Renaissance style of
architecture appeared. Joan of Arc, Agnes Sorel (mistress of King Charles VII), Anne de
Bretagne lived there. Magnificent view of the City of Loches and Indre river Valley.
Guided tour of the keep, built by Foulques Nerra during the XIth c. 36 meters high, it is
considered as the most impressive keep built in the Romanesque style of architecture and
turned into a prison by King Louis the XIth. Explanations about the everyday life in a
keep during the Middle ages , life in State prisons starting from the XVth c. You will
discover the cage where the Cardinal La Balue was imprisoned, and the Martelet,
cell of the famous prisoner Ludovic Sforza, Duke of Milan, who attempted to paint Italian
style frescoes on the cold walls.
